THE POSITION
With extensive manufacturing facilities featuring 10,000 direct employees as well as a world-class engineering and design center, General Motors (GM) has made the most substantial and enduring foreign investment in Korea, enhancing the country’s reputation as one of the top global automotive centers.
GM Korea Company(GMK) is seeking to add an exceptional lawyer (put in Korean “lawyer”) to a join the legal team in Bupyeong as Counsel – Manager specializing in labor law. The position will report to the Director, Counsel, HR/LR and will be located at GMK’s offices in Bupyeong, Korea.
The working environment is international, collegial, and collaborative. Working closely with both the GM Korea legal department and the GM global legal staff, you will have an opportunity to help shape the future and contribute to the long-term success of GM in Korea. Compensation is competitive.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
GMK’s legal department’s objectives are to deliver timely, best-in-class business advisory and legal services in close collaboration with business partners to accomplish their objectives while simultaneously protecting GM’s high standards of legal, ethical, and financial integrity. Each member of the legal department is expected to adhere to these standards.
Consistent with GM’s core value of “Winning with Integrity”, the successful candidate must have a proven track record of integrity and excel at:
·With passion to learn and practice law in grand dynamics of GM operations in Korea, collaborating with other legal counsels at GMK, GM HQ, and elsewhere to proactively and strategically advise on a broad range of various labor and employment matters such as collective bargaining agreements, litigation management, labor and employment regulations and disciplinary matters;
·collaborating with other legal counsels at GMK, GM HQ, and elsewhere to provide advise on other corporate legal matters including transactions, regulatory and compliance issues;
·contributing to success of GM operations in Korea by combining both legal and strategic business acumen with a strong understanding of the company’s goals and operation as a key business partner; and
·communicating and managing effectively across internal and external functions and businesses, managing multiple projects simultaneously.
QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS
·law degree and bar admission (Korean Bar);
·minimum of 3-5 years of top-tier private legal practice and/or in-house experience with a significant portion of the experience gained in the labor sector;
·business-minded, solution-oriented lawyer who can provide a top-down perspective while maintaining a sleeves-rolled-up willingness to take on a significant working role in the company;
·superior personal and professional integrity, excellent communication skills, strategic management team experience, humility and self-awareness;
·ability to take ownership and manage multiple large-scale projects to deliver results and past success forging collaborative relationships with business units in a fast-paced environment; and
·Korean and English language fluency (preferred)
